Marcegaglia Buildtech Strengthens Strategic Cooperation with Romania

7 July 2025

A significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between Italy and Romania was marked during one of the country’s most important infrastructure events. Marcegaglia Buildtech had the honor of participating as part of the Italian delegation, reinforcing our commitment to Romania’s development with high-quality, sustainable, and innovative engineering solutions.

The event brought together institutions and industry leaders to explore future collaborations, especially in the context of Romania’s ambitious infrastructure goals and evolving procurement practices.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
• Romania as a Strategic Market
Italy is Romania’s 5th largest construction partner, with contracts exceeding €6 billion. In the past 4 years, Italian companies have won 186 public tenders worth nearly 20 billion RON — more than any other EU country.
• Ambitious Investment Plans
Romania’s Ministry of Transport has outlined a €75+ billion strategy through 2030, including €35 billion for roads and €20 billion for rail. Over 400 km of new highways are already in the tendering phase.
• Focus on Sustainability and Innovation
The country is transitioning from awarding contracts based solely on price to emphasizing quality, circularity, and low-emission technologies — fully aligned with Marcegaglia Buildtech’s values.
• Unlocking PPP Potential
Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) offer major growth opportunities. Italy’s leadership in urban regeneration and circular economy provides valuable support for Romanian development goals.
• Knowledge Sharing and Technical Alliances
Italian companies are ready to contribute know-how and co-develop with Romanian partners to meet regional infrastructure and reconstruction challenges, including support for Ukraine.

Marcegaglia Buildtech sees Romania not only as a market, but as a long-term partner in building infrastructure that connects, empowers, and endures.
